are they in?
Each year group has its own tie, so the tie changes as they move up the school. Years 7 to 9 wear a navy tie with stripes in the year colour, and Years 10 and 11 a burgundy tie with a single stripe. All carry the heron badge, and the stripe must show at all times.

New since April 2026, the burgundy summer polo with the school badge can be worn instead of the shirt and tie during the summer term.
Jewellery and watches
Up to two small studs in each ear and one small nose stud. No hoops or drop earrings. Watches are fine, but not smartwatches in exams.
Hoodies and hats
Hoodies are not allowed and will be taken away. Woollen hats are fine on the way to and from school, but not inside.
Help with costs
Families who need help with uniform costs can ask the school, and the school also runs a pre-loved uniform scheme.

Measuring for the blazer
- Put on a school shirt, or a thin top.
- Measure round the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, keeping the tape level.
- Keep it snug but not tight, and read it in inches.
- Choose that chest size, or send us the measurement on WhatsApp and we will check.

Which tie do they need?
The one for the year group they are in, and they move on to a new colour each September. Year 7 is silver, Year 8 yellow and Year 9 green on a navy tie, and Year 10 is blue and Year 11 orange on a burgundy tie. Buying over the summer holidays? Choose the colour for the year they are going into.
Do they have to wear the blazer?
Yes. The burgundy blazer with the school badge is worn to and from school, around the site and in lessons, unless staff say it can come off in very hot weather.
Is the jumper compulsory?
No. A plain black V-neck jumper is optional, worn under the blazer. Sweatshirts, cardigans and hoodies are not allowed.
Can they wear the summer polo?
Yes. Since April 2026 the burgundy summer polo with the school badge can be worn instead of the shirt and tie during the summer term.
What PE kit do they need?
The Wanstead PE polo with the logo, black shorts, tracksuit bottoms or leggings, and plain black football socks or white ankle socks. The quarter-zip fleece is optional, and shin pads are a good idea for football.
What shoes can they wear?
Black leather shoes with black soles and black laces, or smart flat ankle boots. Trainers, canvas shoes, high heels, Dr Martens and similar styles are not allowed.
Can they wear shorts?
Yes. Black tailored school shorts are allowed, as well as black tailored trousers. Sports shorts and cycling shorts are only for PE.
Can we try the uniform on?
Yes. The Wanstead uniform is at Fashion Stop Schoolwear, 138 High Street North, East Ham, open seven days a week. Online orders are returned online, not in the shop.

The Wanstead blazer and tie
The blazer is burgundy with the heron badge on the pocket, in boys and girls fits from 26 to 46 inch chest. The tie changes with each year: navy with year-colour stripes for Years 7 to 9, and burgundy with a single stripe for Years 10 and 11.
Jumper, fleece and PE kit
The black V-neck jumper is optional. For PE they need the black and burgundy polo with the logo, black shorts or joggers and the right socks, with the quarter-zip fleece as an optional extra.

Part of the Wanstead uniform since April 2026, the burgundy summer polo with the school badge is worn in place of the shirt and tie in the summer term, in sizes from 28 to adult 3XL.
