Didn't seem to fit at first... then I realised that I needed to push them in as far as they would go. They are not long enough to do any damage but you need faith to push them in firmly. I assumed the little handles face downwards as they fit that way best. When removed, they come out comfortably but need to be cleaned of wax before storage for the next use - I found a tissue was sufficient to do this.
