Anyone who finds a conventional waistband uncomfortable. Elastic gives where a fixed waistband does not, and that matters just as much at fourteen as at four.
Children with additional needs
Dyspraxia, reduced fine motor control and sensory sensitivity can make buttons and zips genuinely difficult, and that does not stop at age seven. A trouser with no fastenings at all removes the problem rather than working around it.
